Mario Bros, now with some SMB3 sprites in!

25 November 2019 6:40PM EST - Update by S.D.A.

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

One of the first ever ROM hacks (not translation) made by S.D.A., which replaces the original Mario/Luigi designs with the ones from the Mario Bros. minigame on Super Mario Bros. 3 (which can be played only when in 2-player mode).

The inspiration of this hack was right by the minigame’s sprites, especially because it features the same mechanics of the original game which this patch is based on. So, by confronting the sprites and the games, S.D.A. finally found an idea and said: “Why not hacking those minigame characters in the original Mario Bros?”. And that’s how this hack was made.

This news was released right for its 100th download in total, being the second project so far that passed this number, among the author’s first French translation of SMB1.

Enjoy!

TINA'S ADVENTURE ISLAND 3 RELEASED!!!

16 November 2019 11:48PM EST - Update by Zynk

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

This is a player sprite hack of Adventure Island 3 for the NES. This hack changes Master Higgins’ player sprites into his girlfriend Tina. There are 2 patches for each region release: US and JP.

Unsurprisingly, Adventure Island 3’s sprite structure is similar to Adventure Island 2, but with new gameplay features, like the player can now duck down, a surfboard bonus game, a boomerang weapon - can be thrown upward, and an additional dinosaur - a triceratops named Poley, it does a rolling attack and does not sink in quicksand.

The US patch is compatible with the current level hacks for the game, but you have to play it on a specific emulator, like VirtuaNES.

Early Famicom Disk System Text Adventure Dead Zone Translation Released

04 November 2019 10:02PM EST - Update by Pennywise

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

Here’s a rare occurrence; a translation for an FDS game with a fair bit of text. It is complete and should be issue-free for your enjoyment and curiosity of this piece of video game history.

The project began several years ago as a side project and morphed into the kind of project that had the hacker, Pennywise, questioning why he was putting himself through such agony. Ultimately he was able to see the project through thanks to the help of several translators along the way.

Dead Zone is an early text adventure released way back in 1986 and is one of the first of its kind on Nintendo consoles. It’s a short game that can be completed probably in less than an hour, it has plenty of humor sprinkled throughout and it even has a nice little mini game to mix things up.

Like most old school games, the game itself gives you no backstory or context at the start of the game, but we’ve included some story translation from the manual in the readme to fill you in.

That said, if anyone good with photoshop wants to help make an English manual, that would be appreciated. Most of the manual is already translated to begin with, so it wouldn’t be hard for us.

Rockman EXE 4.5: Real Operation full English translation released

28 October 2019 8:37AM EST - Update by Prof. 9

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

At last, the long-awaited English translation for Rockman EXE 4.5: Real Operation, also known as Mega Man Battle Network 4.5, is finished!

Released in mid 2004, Rockman EXE 4.5 is a quirky spin-off of the Mega Man Battle Network series, made to tie in with the real-life BattleChip Gate peripheral for the GBA. Instead of the player controlling MegaMan directly, he moves and attacks by himself, while the player sends commands and chips for him to use. A large number of other Navis from the series are also playable.

A few attempts to translate the game had been made before, with the first project starting all the way back in 2006. However, the vast amount of text in the game and lack of available translators marred efforts. It wasn’t until a few years ago that one project led by fan community The Rockman EXE Zone truly got off the ground, and produced the English patch that has been released now.

The translation for Rockman EXE 4.5 translates 100% of all text and images in the game, while also fixing bugs in the game and adding some new features to reduce the game’s reliance on the BattleChip Gate. The team has also translated the game’s manual and an interview with the game’s developers, which can be downloaded from the translators’ website.
