MOTHER 3 Italian Translation patch released!

17 July 2015 3:02AM EST - Update by snifit

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

After 6 years, MOTHER 3 gets an Italian translation. It still needs some minor, mostly graphical, adjustments. They’re probably going to be fixed on a future 1.1 release. But it is fully playable and enjoyable as-is.

Heartfelt thanks go to the team of the Japanese to English translation, especially Tomato and JeffMan who helped me getting this done. Enjoy!

The Magic Candle Translation Released

11 July 2015 8:53PM EST - Update by Pennywise

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

aishsha and Pennywise present a completed translation of the NES RPG, The Magic Candle.

This project was started sometime in 2014 and was hacked and translated by aishsha. The project files were handed off to Pennywise and he did additional hacks and Ryusui assisted him with the script edit.

Despite having the same name as the PC game series, the Famicom version appears to have little in common with its PC counterpart. The PC devs are only credited with a special thanks in the credits, with the rest of the credits belonging to the Japanese staff, which included a script writer. What probably happened was that Sammy probably purchased the rights to port the game to the Famicom as was common for the time, but for whatever reason, they just made a game from scratch.

Expect a tough RPG with a high encounter rate that requires a lot of grinding. Although the story is pretty good. All in all, it’s a fairly enjoyable game for its time.

As for what the future holds, expect a 1.0 release of Megami Tensei this summer. We might also update a few translations as well. Other than that, the next release could end up being a number of games depending on what we focus on next.

The Lord of Nightmares awakens, after a 15 year slumber

10 July 2015 9:41AM EST - Update by Gemini

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

The Lord of Nightmares is the second installment of the Echo Night series, one of those 32-bit gems that we were denied for almost two decades.

This translation, initially announced somewhere around 2008, has finally come to an end with today’s release. Enjoy it just as much as we enjoyed perfecting it.

Kaizo Mario Bros 3 released!

05 July 2015 9:15PM EST - Update by Hunter W

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

Kaizo Mario Bros 3 contains 19 brutally difficult and troll-filled stages designed to test the skill and intellect of even the greatest SMB3 players.

Designed to remain true to Kaizo’s themes while offering maximum variety in level design, Kaizo Mario Bros 3 forces use of all the different suits and obscure game mechanics which aren’t required to beat the original game.

All game mechanics remain unchanged, so SMB3 knowledge directly applies to this mod.

Savestates are useful for retaining sanity, but are you a bad enough dude to beat this without them?? There is only one way to find out.

Asuka 120% Burning Fest: Limit Over (Saturn) Released by Ms. Tea

04 July 2015 12:52AM EST - Update by Ms. Tea

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

Ms. Tea has released an English menu translation of the underdog classic fighting game Asuka 120% Burning Fest: Limit Over for the Sega Saturn. Asuka 120% is a fast-moving, rushdown-oriented game with very unique mechanics and flow which shares elements with “anime fighters” and Marvel Vs. games.

This menu patch translates the Japanese names in the menus, making it possible to actually see who you’re picking. The patch was largely finished several months ago, and has finally been released after a last bit of polish.

Unprecedented Crisis

02 July 2015 4:45AM EST - Update by pinkpuff

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

One of the most comprehensive hacks of Final Fantasy 4 to date (as far as this author is aware), Unprecedented Crisis seeks to showcase the various capabilities of the all-in-one FF4 hacking tool, FF4kster. It does contain some asm hacks which cannot be achieved in the editor alone, but these are few in number and mostly for cosmetic purposes. Otherwise, anything you see in this game can generally be accomplished somehow using FF4kster.

The characters have all undergone significant changes gameplay-wise which, in some cases, propagate into changes in the story (for example, you can’t learn “Fire” if you don’t have black magic). There are also many new and/or different weapons, armor, magic, monsters, and dungeons.

The story is very much the same up until a certain point (which will not be spoiled in this news article), at which time it completely diverges from the original and begins an entirely new sequence of events.

The latter section of the story contains a “world-of-ruin” style open world where you can do any (or none) of a variety of side-quests, many of which will add (or remove!) characters to your party, thus allowing you to, in a less direct way than earlier remakes of FF4, configure your final party. In addition, the decisions you make at this stage in the game can affect details about the ending, some more significant than others.
