Compress Tools upgraded to version 3.0

03 February 2015 5:48PM EST - Update by Bregalad

Utilities News - RHDN Project Page

For people looking to compress their data, Compress Tools is very versatile and support many compression algorithms, in addition to allow users to add their own.

The features are :

  • Use input scripts as data (more versatile than binary files)
  • Input data is defined as a set of randomly-accessible small data blocks (rather than a big file of binary data)
  • Output to either assembly language or binary files
  • Support non-ASCII encodings, support for unicode (UTF-8) input
  • Can analyse data using all algorithms to find the best suited compression algorithm easily
  • Open source, users can add their own compression / decompression algorithms to the existing ones

The program has been rewritten entirely in C++, bugs has been fixed, and it is now easier to use. Enjoy !

FF4kster v0.7

09 January 2015 6:48AM EST - Update by pinkpuff

Utilities News - RHDN Project Page

The all-in-one Final Fantasy 4 hacking utility, FF4kster, has received another significant update. It now features a “Tileset Editor” which allows you to change the properties of the tiles in the various tilesets (things like which tiles are on which layer, which tiles can trigger events or chests, warp you out, damage the party, cause random encounters, etc).

In addition, the program no longer relies on prepackaged image files for the tile images, instead reading them directly from the rom you’re editing. This way, if you change any of the in-game map tile graphics, those changes will be reflected by the editor. The overlays indicating which tiles trigger events or warps or can be walked behind are also now generated dynamically based on the tile settings.

Finally, as usual there are a few minor bug fixes and improvements, including many more safeguards against data bleeding. Adding data should now be a lot safer as it will now either warn you or explicitly prevent you from adding too much (in most cases, that is… there still may be some areas that allow bleeding so you should still be careful, but events, messages, spell sets, triggers, and NPCs should all be safe).

  • Emulator launching (with selected patch records): this allows you to test a ROM with the selected patch records.

Other minor changes are included (view the “CHANGES.txt” file for more).

IPS Patch Checker

17 September 2014 8:31PM EST - Update by LocksmithArmy

Utilities News - RHDN Project Page

For all graphics patchers, small hack patchers, or people wanting to use translated patches to try and translate hacks, this new tool will help you decide how compatible the 2 patches are with one another.

Have you ever patched a graphics patch ontop of a hack just to find they mess up the game. This is nolonger an issues. With Patch Checker, you can load up a patch and compare it to another patch to see if they will overwrite the same code.

You will get a report of how compatible they are, 100% compatible means 0 overlaps and they will work perfectly together.

Be careful, the order does matter, patching the graphics patch first means that you may not have any glitches even if you patch you hack on top of it with 97% compatibility. Just some things will get reverted back to their original graphics (3% of things).

It gives you a percentage and you use your judgment on weather you want to proceed. With 97% compatibility and 25000 alterations, a hack would have approximately 750 glitches…

If anyone has resources for other types of patches (UPS or any others) just post links in a comment so they can be incorporated into this tool.

Thanks, enjoy.
