Zelda: Link's Awakening Restoration

01 December 2009 7:54PM EST - Update by Artemis251

ROM Hacks News

This was a quick little project but is somewhat notable for big Zelda fans: A patch was recently finished restoring Zelda: Link’s Awakening (and its DX version) that put the content originally cut by Nintendo’s localization team back into the game. It restores three main parts of the game:

  • Changes the Necklace back into the Mermaid’s swimsuit top (and changes the dialogue to a closer translation of the Japanese version)
  • Changes the Hippo sprites in Animal Village
  • Fixes the ‘Tale Key’ typo

As an extra bonus, a cave taken out of the game received a normal entrance: check around Kanalet Castle and see what’s inside!

Secret of Evermore Gameplay Balance hack released

09 October 2009 11:56AM EST - Update by Ninakoru

ROM Hacks News

Secret of Evermore is an incredible Action RPG game of the late years of the Super Nintendo. You play with two characters, a boy and his dog, who get trapped themselves in a fantasy world called Evermore. The story is quite original, and, for a change, more funny than serious.

This game had, until today, very few patches to play with. We had the great multiplayer patch and a few known bugs fixes, but nothing more.

Just here we have a fully-featured patch that deal with many internal aspects of the game, with the objective of having a challenging and more enjoyable experience with this already great game.

Mortal Kombat II Unlimited

04 September 2009 9:04AM EST - Update by Smoke

ROM Hacks News

Finally the Mortal Kombat II hack for SMD has been finished. It’s been a hard work for me and now I’d like to present result to the world. This hack has many new features such as new moves, combo-system etc. Nearly each gameplay change player can turn off or on. So you can calibrate it to be a normal MK2 but with improvements such as new sounds, stages etc. See the feature list and small description at the RHDN Hack Page. Enjoy!

Ys Book I improvement patch for SMS released

22 August 2009 11:33PM EST - Update by kingofcrusher

ROM Hacks News

This is a patch that adds the FM Sound capability back into Ys for the Sega Master System that was taken out when it was translated into English for the US and Europe. In Japan the FM Sound module was originally an optional hardware upgrade for the Sega Mark III (basically the same exact thing we got as the Sega Master System), so many games like Ys supported not only regular PCM music but also the vastly superior FM Sound module. When the games were ported to other territories the FM Sound capability was usually disabled or completely removed.

I’ve also changed all the names back to their proper Ys names, so no more playing through the whole game as ARON instead of Adol.
