How to Train Your Dragon NES Style; Sansara Naga Translation Released

28 December 2013 10:15AM EST - Update by Pennywise

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

This holiday season aishsha and Pennywise, with help from Eien ni Hen and friend, present to you a complete translation of the NES RPG Sansara Naga. The game is a Hindu-themed DQ clone, but it is also a dragon-raising sim and a semi-complex one at that for a game of its time. The game ditches mindless grinding and a traditional experience stat in favor of something else that involves feeding your dragon certain types of enemies to raise certain stats. On top of that, your actions influence your dragon’s behavior. For example, if all you do is run from battles, your dragon will become a coward. The game world may be somewhat small, but it is also kind of an open world type thing where you can pretty much explore everywhere right off the bat. That’s pretty much Sansara Naga in a nutshell, but do give it a play and see if you think it’s as good as we think it is.

We’ve also recorded a sort of Let’s Play that covers the beginning of the game, so if you’re stuck or curious about the game, please refer to these videos.

We also have a scanned and translated manual that we would like someone to photoshop in the English translation. We would rather do that than release the text file. The manual will pretty much answer most questions gamers have about this game and there are sure to be questions.

Lastly, we have included a few stocking stuffer translations to go along with this release. The game of note is Peke and Poko’s Daruman Busters. The game is paid advertising for Japanese bakery company Fujiya, but it was developed by Birthday, a dev we have a history with translating games for.

Aeon Genesis Holiday Spectacular: Super Robot Wars 2 Twofer

24 December 2013 10:29AM EST - Update by Gideon Zhi

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

As Banpresto celebrates the announcement of SRW Z3 and a high-definition remake of the very first SRW, so too does Aeon Genesis. Launching today is the English version of Super Robot Wars 2 for the NES, with a heaping plateful of extras! Included is the previously-advertised optional music persistence patch as well as a patch that will completely remove the hack should you decide you don´t like it. But wait, that´s not all! Thanks to RHDN music guru optomon, the awkwardly muzaky Tobe! Gundam theme song has been replaced by Gallant Char, the track used in for UC units in SRW3, EX, and 4. As with music persistence, this patch is entirely optional, comes with a removal patch, and can be applied with any combination of the translation and music persistence patch, or it can just be applied on its own!

As if that weren´t enough, all this is releasing alongside a similarly-complete translation for the officially-emulated version of Super Robot Wars 2 on the GameBoy Advance!! Aeon Genesis has managed to insert the NES translation into the Famicom Mini version of the game that was released in limited quantities as a promotional contest item. It´s probably inferior to the NES version, but hey, more options! Music Persistence and Gallant Char are both fully functional with the FamiMini version of the game as well, and are included as optional patches (and removal patches) with the translation. That said, the Famicom Mini version hasn´t been tested extensively, and might be prone to weird issues that may or may not be caused by the translation. It´s really hard to tell, and honestly it was thrown together pretty quickly as a what-if effort. Regardless, enjoy!

ROLL♥CHAN - Mega Man Player Sprite Hack Released!

18 December 2013 5:07AM EST - Update by Zynk Oxhyde

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

In celebration of Mega Man’s 26th Anniversary, Zynk releases ROLL♥CHAN! Roll-chan is a player sprite hack which replaces Mega Man with his sister Roll.

Like any other “Roll fan” out there, Zynk has always wanted to play as Roll as her brother’s stead.

Inspired by the Rockman 1 cell phone game, and likewise, the WIP fan-game called “Roll-chan” by Tarbo, Zynk finds a way on how to get Roll in the game.

Just back then Zynk discovered romhacking by watching several “Roll Chan” titled games that are actually romhacks. The hack was particularly made by YUIFA and she hacked Rockman hacks from 1 to 5.

Not fond of YUIFA’s Roll design, Zynk made his own Roll sprites. Zynk based his design on Mobile Roll, but her sprites are taller than Mega Man so Zynk used Roll’s original sprite from the NES games. However, for an added effect, Zynk made a few custom sprites for Roll (specifically, jumping & damage sprites).

With palette limitations set aside, Zynk has completed ROLL♥CHAN! Zynk made two types of Roll: the Classic & MM8 costumes.
