Adventure Island IV English Translation RELEASED!
16 July 2018 9:39AM EST - Update by Zynk
Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima IV or more popularly known as Adventure Island IV is now COMPLETELY translated in English!
Zynk tackled this project because he has a related hack in the works. He can’t use the old translation as it does not accurately translated the game. At all. Unlike the previous translation made by Demiforce, this hack translates more accurately what the characters say, especially the game masters - as they tell you what the items do instead of coaxing them to play a game with them on and on. The animal verbal tics are in the JP version, like the penguin’s -pen to HONK! Rabbit’s say PYON in JP, but what noise rabbits make? And what does the fox say?? (or was it a coyote…)
The title screen was designed like the previous NES release had, with “Hudson’s Adventure” graphic text inserted. The “Island” was painstakingly chiseled and the “IV” is retained.
Included is an extra patch where the sprite palettes are changed, making the game more colorful. Fruits now have their own palette away from the player’s sprite palette, though it shares with the dinos’ palette, but at least you can see grapes in purple, red, blue or green. Some enemies have palettes reassigned as well. Minor graphics changes for some items, namely the “flask with red liquid in it” changed to the consistent full HP restoration item from I, II, III – Milk.
Anyways, the game is playable even if the game is not translated. But please try the extra patch! Because its more colorful and more effort was put into it!! Enjoy!!!
The Quest of Lala RELEASED!
14 August 2017 10:19AM EST - Update by Zynk
The Quest of Lala is a complete level hack of The Adventures of Lolo. This time, the damsel in distress, Princess Lala is the protagonist and Lolo was the one kidnapped by the Devil King AKA the evil King Egger.
The levels are based on the PC game “Eggerland: Episode 0 - Quest of Rara”, but improvises were made since the NES game has limitations in displaying too many enemies and moveable blocks, and some items not available from the PC version (e.g. mirror blocks and the enemy teleportation bug). The PC game has 32 rooms, so the unreleased “Kopio levels” are present to accommodate the remaining rooms.
This hack was made with the Neptune level editor.
If anyone has a copy of the original PC freeware game, please share it!
Roll-chan World GAMEBOY - Player Sprite hack RELEASED!
26 March 2017 11:35PM EST - Update by Zynk Oxhyde
In commemoration of Mega Man’s 29th Anniversary and beyond!
Zynk Oxhyde previously released ROLL-CHAN for the NES! Roll-chan is a player sprite hack which replaces Mega Man with his sister Roll. Today Zynk releases FIVE new player sprite hacks, but this time for the GAMEBOY, ROLL-CHAN WORLD!
Continue the super robot girl’s adventure in saving the world against the evil Dr. Wily, the mad scientist who, once more, attempts to fulfill his ambition of world domination.
Just like before in the NES, Roll is joined by her trusty pet robot cat Tango, replacing the role of Rush the robot dog. All sprites and custom sprite arts are all done by Zynk. The player sprites are structured differently for the Gameboy so adjustments were made to accommodate the more limited tile space.
There are note worthy changes made to some sprites, i.e. Dr. Wily’s machines in Rockman World 2 are greatly improved (managed to make Wily into his normal size); some minor enemies got improved sprites (e.g. Mag Fly, Peterchy, Returning Monking). AND a new character, Quart, the future version of Roll who was kidnapped from the future and brainwashed by none other than Dr. Wily.
Fight, Roll! For everlasting peace!
Roll-chan 3 Improvement RELEASED!
10 April 2016 8:03AM EST - Update by Zynk Oxhyde
Announcing the release of ROLL-CHAN 3 IMPROVEMENT patch.
As many Mega Man fans may know by now, Mega Man 3 was released back in 1990 for the NES. However, along with the release of the game, it was already suffering with unresolved bugs and unimplemented features that could have made the game better. After 20 years, kuja killer created a Mega Man 3 Improvement (MM3I) patch for not only the US version of the game, but also for the Japanese version. It fixed all known bugs, like the Top Spin energy drain and the mosaic in the Stage Select screen; and he added more features for the game, like the Exit command and the real-time weapon switching. After the next few years, he made it as far as supplementing the game with an introduction movie, shown here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bed6y5sX03E
With that achievement, Zynk took the time to create a Roll-chan version of the improved Mega Man 3 game. Applying the patch with the Roll-chan 3 was very simple, but with the changes made in MM3I, more hacking was needed. And with the new Intro-scene, Zynk made a Roll-chan version of it, too.
With all that, please enjoy Roll-chan 3 Improvement!
Kamen no Ninja: Akakage & Perman 1 English Translation RELEASED!
26 February 2016 7:48AM EST - Update by Zynk Oxhyde
Another two old Famicom games translated to English by Zynk Oxhyde.
Akakage was easy to translate because of very few text. The game was very memorable because of the anime-ish graphics and it was a very mysterious game without knowing what the things are happening. But the game was really a very linear game with not much plot. And most of the items seem incomplete and with Akakage’s sidekicks, Aokage - the quick ninja boy with the boomerang, & Shirokage - who seems to have nothing special on him. (Forgot to mention those two characters in the readme, meh)
Perman 1 is remarkably a fun platformer dabbled with some minigames that are essential to get a perfect game to make the boardgame boss battle easier to deal with. There are some stages where you can play as Booby (aka Perman#2), a monkey who has much more jumping power. Too bad you can’t play as Perko (aka Perman#3) and Peryan (aka Perman#4), however, these two play as support in the BBB section.
FOOTNOTE: There’s a translated Perman 2 by KingMike, but Perman 1 was left untranslated by some reason; really, why Perman 2 first and not Perman 1?? (And should the translation turn “Paaman” into “Perman” for the sake of correcting it?)
KITERETSU ENCYCLOPEDIA & PARASOL HENBEE English Translation Released!
15 February 2016 8:01AM EST - Update by Zynk Oxhyde
Zynk Oxhyde features two famicom games translated into English:
- KITERETSU ENCYCLOPEDIA; and,
These games are based on animes from the creator of Doraemon, Fujiko Fujio. However, that pen-name had actually two manga artists collaborating, namely, Fujiko Fujio A (Motoo Abiko) and Hiroshi Fujimoto (Fujiko F. Fujio).
Both games were grueling to work on without any knowledge of either shows, and the fact that these are kuso-games. :D
Have fun! And be sure to read the readmes on how to play them!
FIGHBIRD (NES & GB) English Translation 2016 Released!
05 January 2016 5:51AM EST - Update by Zynk Oxhyde
“Taiyou no Yuusha: Fighbird”, aka “Brave Fighter of the Sun: Fighbird” is a shoot’em up game based on a mecha anime of the Yuusha or Brave series. (Protip: use Select in some instances in the game). The game is super easy when you acquire the level 3 homing missiles (which is OP).
The author decided on making an English re-translation of this obscure Japanese game because the previous group did not translated some of the game’s texts (i.e. the part when you did not rescue the people then the Doctor says something about it; while some untranslated texts were simply unused).
Before, the author wanted to make a bugfix/addendum patch of the translation made by Dragoon-X Translations (DXT). But the translation took liberties on its own without much reference with the anime counterpart. And there were messups with the hexadecimals that made some palettes on the talking heads glitchy. And there’s the notorious misnomer of “Kenta”, which DXT (and PL Translations) called “Kesota”. Understandably, they mistaken “n”, [ン] with “so”, [ソ]. The names of each member of the Baron Team is used instead of the regular vehicle names. And there’s their title logo, not gonna touch it because its cool. Eventually, the author made a fresh start with the original ROM.
Note that the author rendered a nice and new title logo and mini in-game logo :)
Please enjoy the game!
- UPDATE: The Game Boy version was released - 05/23/2016
Taiyou no Yuusha: Fighbird GB has the same game mechanics as the NES version, but here you mostly play as Fighbird alone.
ROLL♥CHAN5 and ROLL♥CHAN6 - Player Sprite Hack Released! ROLL♥CHAN 1-4 updated with improved sprites!!
28 December 2015 7:13AM EST - Update by Zynk Oxhyde
In commemoration of Mega Man’s 28th Anniversary and beyond!
Zynk Oxhyde previously released ROLL-CHAN! Roll-chan is a player sprite hack which replaces Mega Man with his sister Roll. Today Zynk releases TWO new player sprite hacks:
ROLL-CHAN 5; and
Continue the super robot girl’s adventure in saving the world against the evil Dr. Wily, the mad scientist who made his own army of Robot Masters for his world domination.
Along her journey, Roll has been given new powers by her father-figure/creator, Dr. Light. However, the battle against Dr. Wily has been heightened, with that in mind, Dr. Light has created support units to aid Roll. Items were changed to make them more familiarized to her, and most importantly a pet robot sidekick has been added! Like Mega Man, Rush, the faithful pet robot pooch is also replaced with the Light family’s pet robot cat, Tango the playful spin-balling cat in the Gameboy days, now making its action-filled debut in the battlegrounds!
Roll’s battle continues as more unforeseen enemies arises, Protoman’s rebellion and a Robot Tournament gone haywire with a new tyrant! Roll-chan needs to step up her game with new powerups, a new support unit, Beat the battle beaker made by Dr.Cossack. And take control of Roll equipped with new special armor that makes way to different paths or gets you to high, unreachable areas!
Fight, Roll! For everlasting peace!
