For those of you who just couldn't stand playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance because of the questionable Law system, you're in luck! FFTA: Anarchy is a small mod that I made a few months back with the help of Darthatron that removes Laws, allowing you to play the game without worrying about dumb laws such as Dmg2Animal or ColorMagic.

So what're you waiting for! Download FFTA: Anarchy and cause some chaos!

While not a bad idea, this doesn't make FFTA a good game. It doesn't make it anything like FFT (which I need to replay), and it doesn't make the story any good.

Spoiler:
The main character's friends have really terrible lives in the real world. One of his friends is an outcast, the other has what appears to be abusive parents. But the main character's life is fine. So obviously, when his friends and him get stuck in the world of Ivalice, and his friends are much better off there, the solution is to get everything back the way it was. Selfish prick.

I missed the part where anyone is claiming this patch is anything more than what it says it is.

I would like to note that I'm also making a rebalancing mod that removes a ton of broken stuff and rebalances the rest, and in my initial tests, it plays much more similarly to FFT. Currently, that patch (called FFTA: Grim Grimoire) is in the beta phase and hasn't been fully tested (which is why it hasn't been submitted yet). It doesn't change the story or anything, but if you want more info on it, you can find it here.

FFTA: GG also does not have laws, and Darthatron and I are looking at ways to add Movement abilities and other features. Any feedback is welcome!

Thanks to everyone who is giving Anarchy a try!

Oh, come on. It's a better villain story than it is a hero story.

Which do you prefer, the PSX original with its mangled translation, or War of the Lions, which you can only play on a tiny PSP screen? Both have their pluses and minuses.

I read somewhere that Marche was apparently neglected by his parents due to his brother's disability. Can't vouch for the accuracy of that, but keeping that in mind it would seem that though it wasn't as bad as, say, Mewt's, Marche's life wasn't exactly honeyed.
All my life I've tried to fight what history has given me.

Spoiler:
That was Marche’s take on it. It’s how he ultimately got Doned on his side.

Also, the Radiuju brothers’ parents were heavily implied to be divorced (or definitely divorced, if you consider the radio play canon) and arguing all the time when they were together.

Spoiler:
I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't at least some abuse in the household, or at the very least, a lot of tension. Single mom has a disabled child and a (ex)husband who doesn't get along with her. I'd say that's reason enough to want to escape reality.

Darthatron has some notes on that- more info than I have, at least- but I wouldn't foresee a mod of that magnitude to come any time soon. I'm just now looking at ways to edit enemy items/abilities, so we're slowly but steadily learning about battle data. I haven't even bothered looking at events yet.

Another modder has sent me a spreadsheet with data on battles, such as how many units you're allowed to bring in, how many uncontrollable units there are, etc. I'm currently trying to make heads and tails of how it handles equipment and stuff.

I don't see why she'd mind. I've been able to decipher about two columns of it so far. Column B seems to have to do with the number of uncontrollable units in the battle and column AH is the number of allies you're allowed to bring into battle.

The spreadsheet can be downloaded here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/o0neq3

Sorry I can't be of more help. =\

I actually liked the laws, to be honest. They added challenge. Considering the Playstation version started out at a decent level of difficulty, but then became ridiculously easy.

I'd argue that the laws don't really add difficulty, they're just annoyances. Later laws- particularly Dmg2Animal- just make some battles almost impossible without having your units jailed or you use skills that are coded in such a bad way that they ignore the law altogether. They're not particularly fair in that regard.

Darthatron and I are coming up with potential ways to reintroduce Laws in less annoying ways, such as either FFTA2's Law System or a system that debuffs/damages a unit who breaks the Law. Currently in my FFTA rebalancing mod I've removed Laws outright and reduced the number of units you can bring into each fight by one. This- combined with skill/item/job rebalancing- has increased the difficulty in a fair way, I feel. My point: you can make FFTA more difficult without resorting to annoying Laws. :P

I liked the Laws as a story point. As a game mechanic, well....
