I'm making progress on the Sonic hack submissions. There's still more to submit. Not sure how many more there are cause I've never browsed all the available Sonic hacks before. Don't know which are complete and which are demos.

Definitely interested in the Simon's Quest thing. That's not a hack, though. It's apparently a re-translation of some sorts? I'm kinda confused.

Also, how come no one's ever mentioned the MAP thing before? That'd have been useful.

I guess retranslations aren't accepted as translations so I had to submit it as a hack.

My guess is because the source language of the translation was not the same as the source language of the ROM (that is, they did a Japanese-to-English translation but used the US version of the ROM as a hack, rather than the Japanese (FDS) version)?

From the readme, I had guessed it was that they just had a .nes version of the Japanese ROM. But I could be wrong.

But the Japanese version was never released on cart (at least not officially, I've heard of someone who said they got some sort of repro cart), so there shouldn't be a .nes version of the ROM.

If I can make a suggestion, Robotnik's Revenge turns Sonic 2 into a boss rush, including bosses from Sonic 1.

I assume Sonic 1: Return to the Origin is complete. It reverses the stages in Sonic 1.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles: The Challenges makes S3&K a challenge fulfillment game.

I think I'll submit all of those hacks. Be patient or you could submit them yourself. If you do submit them yourself use xdelta for your patch cause Sonic hackers shift data and that leaves IPS patches with portions of or all of the ROM in them.

Is there a particular program I need for patching the Sonic Classic Heroes patch? It's not in the normal IPS format.

It should say on the hacks description that the Sonic hack patches are in XDelta format. I use this program for making and using XDelta patches:

I didn't even know there was a map in the Japanese version of Simon Qust (which I own, on the FDS).

I cannot seem to patch properly. I'm supposed to have a good dump in BIN format. Well I have that, but I still cannot patch it.

Either Sonic game, try to find the "(W) (REV00) [!]" version if possible.

I tried the ROM you found at Site Removed and I got this error: xdelta3: target window checksum mismatch: XD3_INVALID_INPUT. I don't know why that is but if you use the ROM found at either Site Removed or Site Removed it works fine.

If you do submit them yourself use xdelta for your patch cause Sonic hackers shift data and that leaves IPS patches with portions of or all of the ROM in them.

Any delta patcher can be used for this problem, not just xdelta. I recommend beat, as it might help the problem ppl are having with selecting the correct ROM version... Of course said feature of beat would not be necessary if more complete ROM info was posted by the authors of the hacks.

I was just thinking that. Why can' there be a delta patcher that patches your ROM anyway. xdelta should just give a warning about the ROM not matching up with the one desired then ask if you really wanna patch. Not just reject it outright.

Edit: I just tried Beat. I don't detect xdelta patches at all. It only looks for .bps and .bpm files. There's no way to switch to look for other file types.

When they say there is a map on the original Famicom version of Simon's Quest, was is in the manual or something in the like ? Because I don't think the map can be accessed from the game.

I can't get Famicom games working in my emulator so I can't confirm that. If you've tried that then I guess the hack pages need to be updated. I machine translated what was on that finish site so maybe I misunderstood something. So has anyone tried the famicom version and tried pressing Select to see if it brought up a map?
