Hack of Final Fantasy II

Description:

This patch takes the following quality-of-life improvements made in the Free Enterprise randomizer and applies them to vanilla FF2US:

  • The player dashes on the map by default. Holding Y will reduce to original walking speed. This behavior can be inverted from the in-game Custom menu.
  • Holding Y will speed up the movement of the hovercraft and yellow chocobos, and slow down the movement of airships and the Big Whale for precise landings.
  • Menu animations are sped up.
  • Random encounters can be toggled on/off from the Custom menu. Note that this setting also affects the Trapdoor fights in the Sealed Cave and the forced Behemoth fights in Cave Bahamut.
  • When opening a treasure chest, you can press R to immediately discard the item. If you do this in error, you can retrieve the treasure by checking it again. This grace period lasts until you leave the immediate area.
  • Double-selecting the trash can in the item menu will put you into “quick trash” mode, where selecting an inventory item once will immediately discard it. This cannot be undone, so be careful with it.

Credit goes to Myself086 for coding the dash and fast menu patches, Pinkpuff for ff4kster use as references, and Crow for additional hacking research.
