Frank’s 2nd SMB3 Hack

Hack of Super Mario Bros. 3

A second Super Mario Bros. 3 hack! The levels in this hack are vastly different from the original game, to feel like a completely new experience! Levels don’t start out terribly difficult, but get tricky later on, though they never become unfair. Secrets are strewn throughout the many levels, including new levels for the White Mushroom Houses, with new coin requirements, and the hidden whistle.

Feels Like a True Sequel

This is a fantastic hack of Super Mario Bros. 3 that features some very creative level designs. I strive to play hacks with no save states and this one passed the test. There are some very hard levels in there but nothing felt impossible or even unfair.

World 3 was the first major hurdle as the difficulty really increased there. After that it wasn’t too bad until World 7 which boasted 14 levels not including fortresses and the airship! World 8 was, of course, brutal and Bowser’s castle took about an hour and a half.

The hack uses the original graphics and music which is fine with me since they were already great to begin with. The only visual changes are some altered color palettes here and there. You won’t believe how many different 1-up mushrooms you’ll see.

There are some pretty cool secrets scattered throughout the worlds like invisible doors that reward you with a hammer bro or tanooki suit, or a pipe that takes you to a power-up in a previous world that you couldn’t reach before. (You’ll know it when you see it!)

All-in-all Frank’s 2nd SMB3 Hack is a great game for an experienced player of the original who is looking for a fair challenge. Highly Recommended!
