Hack of Raiden Trad

Description:

Seibu Kaihatsu’s Raiden was ported to many systems. While the Sega Genesis port was rather accurate in terms of content, graphics were simplified and many details were lost. This hack aims to change that:

  • fully reworked sprites, background tiles & color palettes
  • stage transition scenes & loading screen (red eye) restored
  • most palette based animations restored, e.g. stage 1 river, stage 5 yellow lights on buildings, lamps and engines on enemies and player craft
  • see readme file for details

Flowing Rivers!

Reviewed By: ArugulaZ on 11 Mar 2018

This hack brings a lot of zest to an adequate but not exceptional port of Raiden. Onscreen sprites are brighter, but beyond that, the rivers that were static in the original Genesis release flow like they did in the arcade version, thanks to clever palette cycling.

Sure, it’s not 1991 anymore, and there are more faithful versions of Raiden available. Nevertheless, I appreciate the effort that went into making the Genesis port better, and I can’t wait to get it on my Flashback HD when it arrives. Kudos to the developer!
