Hack of Sonic the Hedgehog

This is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. It replaces the main character with a fan character created by FelicaVal. She has several moves that Sonic didn’t have in the original game. This includes a spindash, jumpdash, tailspin attack, flying kick attack, and water skimming. A complete movelist is in the readme.

The patch is in xdelta format. The ROM should be in BIN format.

Great concept, poor execution

Reviewed By: herno on 08 Jul 2019

Was excited to play this all new homemade character mod for Sonic the Hedgehog. The screenshots look fantastic, and it was something that is rarely seen in Sonic fangames. Most of the Sonic hacks out there take existing Sonic cartoon characters and place them in various games, and those are all quite fun and exciting to play, but this hack seemed to be a whole new breed with an entirely original character!

After loading this up on my preferred emulator, seemed to be a great and fun little game. But when I decided to take it to the next level and slap this creation into my Everdrive, that was where the fun stopped. There is something to be said about playing hacks on original hardware. Now I know that hacking isn’t without it’s issues from time to time, but I was sorely disappointed I couldn’t play this on my original Genesis with my original controller and giant TV setup. The game would never load past the title screen and become stuck with Address Errors.

Too bad. Maybe someone will see this review and go in and fix whatever is causing this to not work on original hardware. It’d be fun to see it up and running properly! As it is though, I cannot recommend this. I’ve even heard reports that it doesn’t work on other emulators too. Makes me sad :( So much potential!
