Skilar had once said that he used CrookedPoe's optimized Link patches to create his adult Link model see here (https://i.ibb.co/410NRwz/imageedit-22-8531936831.png), that's why I credited CrookedPoe before. But it turns out he DID NOT use his optimized model... As I thought in the first place... So I edited CrookedPoe's credits to just include his work on the Majora's Mask Jumps into Ocarina of Time port. Just needed to correct this.

SMB3J Damage System

Hack of Super Mario All-Stars

Description:

The code has been recreated in all Super Mario All-Stars versions from scratch. In the Japanese version of SMB3 for the NES, when you are hurt and not Small Mario, you always return all the way back to Small Mario.

If you wear Kuribo’s Shoe and get hit, you are also reverted to Small Mario.

ROM / ISO Information:

  • When editing SMB3 for SMAS using SMB3 Workshop, it must use a x200 byte Super NES header. These patches for the Super Mario-All Stars version requires a header.

Exactly What I Wanted!

Reviewed By: thunder135 on 21 May 2020

This hack does exactly what it says. If you take damage, you revert to small mario (unless you are already small mario, in which case you die). I’ve played through most of the game and have seen zero issues. The other games within All Stars seem unaffected.

Ever since I discovered this is how the japanese version of Super Mario 3 behaved, it’s been my favorite way to play. It matches the behavior of all the other classic mario platformers (Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2 Japan, Super Mario World). If you prefer this damage system, I highly recommend this hack.

I was itching to play the All Stars version, and was hoping this existed. Thank you for making this!
