Shin Bokura no Taiyou: Gyakushuu no Sabata

Game Boy Advance

Game Description:

This is the third installment in the Boktai series and was never released outside of Japan. While it does share similarities with Konami’s other franchises; like vampires from Castlevania and stealth based action from Metal Gear; it stands as its own original franchise.

The series revolves around sunlight, and the cartridge itself had a solar sensor. Now, for the game itself.

Boktai 3 made the entire usage of the GBA’s measly sound chip, sporting spectacular music composition and even a few voice acting on a few places. The game is non-linear and based on stealth. The isometric view really teases us on the absence of a Metal Gear title on GBA.

The game has stunning and bright visuals. It has dynamic environments, like crows flying off rooftops as you approach them. The story itself kicks off from the first two Boktai games, and you can use a different character this time.

The gameplay remains the same as the first two games, save for the fact that they added motorcycle levels.

Another interesting fact about the Boktai series is that it has a running tradition on connecting with the MegaMan Battle Network Series. This continues to the DS. This is likely a joint advertising campaign with Capcom and Konami.

Overall, the game is spectacular and is a must play title for GBA. I see no reason as to why it was never released in North America or Europe.

Translation Description:

This is an unfinished preview version of the translation patch. All of the game script has been translated, but the graphics are incomplete and we don’t have anyone willing to spend time on them right now. Rather than make you wait any longer, we’re releasing this preview version.
