Bomber Quest

PC-98

Game Description:

Bomber Quest is a hentai puzzle, RPG, maze hybrid game for the PC-98.

Translation Description:

This English translation patch for the PC-98 hentai puzzle game, Bomber Quest, is far from finished and may never be (at least by the original author). It was made as more of a quick experiment to see if any text could be replaced. The files modified are AMI.EXE, GAME.BIN, MENU.BIN, and VPD5.COM. These four files contains most of the in-game text, some main menu text, etc. in Shift-JIS. Due to this, it wasn’t so hard to replace the text, so everything that could be found in each file was replaced with rough machine translations. Also, some strings had to be awkwardly shortened due to lack of space in the file. Annoyingly, not all in-game text seem to be in these files (like some menu headings and a bit of the battle-related text). Overall, the patch makes the game more enjoyable by being able to know what item does what and having much easier menu navigation, but expectations should still be lowered somewhat.

Other than what’s in the four files mentioned, no other instances of Shift-JIS strings have been found yet. Stuff like story dialogue, etc. seem to most likely be compressed somehow.

To apply this modification, make a folder named BQ inside the location you installed Xdelta to. Copy your original AMI.EXE, GAME.BIN, MENU.BIN, and VPD5.COM files into it. Once that’s done, copy the Xdelta patch files provided in the zip into the same place. Lastly, copy Patch-BQ.bat to the location where Xdelta’s executable is and run it. If you followed these instructions correctly, the patching process should have been successful and you will now find a new folder inside BQ containing the patched files that you can copy over to where you installed the game.
