Breath of Fire Text Cleanup

Hack of Breath of Fire

Description:

The first in the Breath of Fire series is the only entry that still uses outdated terms, such as Bleu and Tyr as opposed to Deis and Myria. In addition, the script is rather bare-bones, full of unnecessary abbreviations, and at times, it’s difficult to discern speakers during cutscenes.

Breath of Fire Text Cleanup aims to smooth out some of these flaws, improving the dialogue on a wide scale while adapting character names and several terms to reflect later games and Ryusui’s Breath of Fire II fan translation.

Please check the readme for a note on playable character names.

Consider combining this mod with Bregalad’s Sound Restoration and Asaki’s Color Restoration.

ROM / ISO Information:

  • Breath of Fire (U) (Mode7).gba
  • Mode7 Release (4,194,304 bytes)
  • CRC-32: 4BBBE9A2
  • MD-5: 8C0D04E7909814C1BDBA874A5A84EB4D
  • SHA-1: 04C15F2B2E7C504F40B97E3A30F2CD591BC7AEF8
  • (While the readme states that the patch is intended for the Mode7 scene release of the ROM, it will work with no issues on the No-Intro verified USA ROM (CRC-32: F06422A8), and will actually clean the Mode7 ROM by removing the unskippable intro hack.)

Great little non-translation

Reviewed By: Chronosplit on 10 May 2014

With the retranslation of BoFII, things ended up named so differently between BoF1 and all other games that I was completely confused as to what item did what thing when playing the games chronologically.

This conversion was sorely needed. My only complaint is there isn’t an SNES version so we can enjoy full music and proper colors. Oh well, a small gripe. Especially considering this patch and all the other improvements together make the GBA version the definitive BoF1 game.
