Playable Golbez Edition

Hack of Final Fantasy II

This hack alters events of the game such that Golbez joins the party after Cecil and friends destroy the Giant of Babil. The story has been tweaked so that this development makes sense in context. Edge is demoted to a non-playable character in order to make room for Golbez.

Other changes include: a modified party lineup at various points throughout the game, many new equipment and tool items, the restoration of dummied commands and spells, overall refinement of the script, and more.

We are currently on Version 3.1, the eighth release of this hack. This release only addresses bugs from previous versions.

Thank you to everyone who tries the hack!

Not only a romhack, but also a patch to Final Fantasy IV.

This Final Fantasy IV romhack is not only a Playable Golbez hack of Final Fantasy IV, but also a patch to it as well. The Playable Golbez Edition adds Golbez to the party after Golbez breaks free from mind control in the Babil Giant.

I’ve really loved the After Years references and unused content from the original game that was added to this romhack and that is the reason why I stayed away from the original game. We get to see two characters with stats from The After Years and the romhacker chose Golbez to be playable. This is a Final Fantasy IV that no one at Square could have ever imagined. Well done!

We finally get to see more character development with Golbez this time and seeing the family reunion after Golbez breaks free from mind control is the reason why I’d never want to go back to the original game again.

Golbez is the best character in the game and seeing him join his kid brother made this romhack a wonderful experience. The majority of Golbez’s battle sprites were edited from Dark Knight Cecil. I understand that Edge was chosen because he really isn’t that important to the storyline compared to the other characters and his design in the program is much easier. It was a very brave sacrifice and the results were overwhelming.

Golbez is the strongest and most useful character in the team. He starts at Level 50 and his gameplay is just the same as The After Years. The only difference is his Darkwave command replacing Taunt, which is gimmicky to use. Darkwave works like Struggle as of the Generation IV Pokemon games, but costs 1/8 of your life after doing damage. He starts out mediocre at first, but you’ll get used to him once he learns Flare at Level 55. Pressure stops most enemies in their tracks making random encounters easier. He has very good stats, and giving him the Ebony armor makes him a force to be reckoned with.
