Unfortunately falls into common pitfalls.Reviewed By: Chronosplit on 03 Jun 2016
This hack promises a lot. And for some of the way, it delivers! Unfortunately, this hack also has a lot holding it back:
- It ends up looking rather ugly at points, because some of the graphics are brought over from the original Crystal with no modification whatsoever. Visual quality is rather sporadic at points, and mixed sources does not a good picture make.
- The added plot really needs some work. New characters are horribly written and fall all too easily into the edgy stereotype (for lack of a better word to describe it) that we’ve sadly come to expect from hacks with new plots. The original plot also stands out from the new plot in a big way because it’s done better.
- The mechanics here, much like Flora Sky for example, would become rather outdated in the face of recent developments. Using FireRed as a base ends up a detriment to the project even though a berry system is available, and the damage split can be viewed as unbalanced because there aren’t any new moves to round it out.
- It feels like the project was quit before it was done, forever in Live Beta. Though the whole GSC game itself is playable, some sidequests are bugged. Orange Islands are unfinished.
Considering this isn’t nearly the first GSC remake out there (including projects still in progress and official offerings), there are far better choices in the pool.
