Super Luigi Sunshine (Now with Luigi's voice)

Hack of Super Mario Sunshine

Please use Dolphin Ver 5.0-2472 for best results:

Download link:

The Super Luigi Sunshine mod has been a thing for quite some time, but there was no simple way to get this mod until this xdelta was created.

The mod started by just replacing Mario’s model with the Luigi model from Super Mario 64 DS, but a custom model to fit the Sunshine theme was eventually created along with many other features. In addition to converting these assets into a simple xdelta patch, new features have been added as well, including Luigi voice-clips!

(Please remember that editing Super Mario Sunshine sound effects is still a very buggy process and that a few sound effects, Luigi’s voice or not, may not play or play distorted.)

Previously worked on by:

Melonspeedruns, Nibroc.Rock, Kaio, GeoshiTheRed, stomatol, Quasmok,

New features made by:

Wizard, Yoshi2

Full permission was given for Nintendo 64 Wizard or anyone else of with interest to continue this mod when the assets were released by Marionova64 here at the request of Melonspeedruns:

New Features (Ver 4.6.8):

  • Crashing issues in Pinna Park have been fixed.

What it doesn’t feature (yet):

  • The pre-rendered cut-scenes still have Mario.
  • The FLUDD when not worn on Luigi’s back shows up like its original non-Poltergust 3000 counterpart.
  • The FLUDD nozzles don’t always render correctly.
  • The Luigi model lacks many of the texture-altering features of the original Mario model, such as visibly getting dirty from the goop or closing his eyes when he goes to sleep.
  • Shadow Mario is not replaced with Shadow Luigi.
  • The level entry portals are still “M”s instead of “L”s.
  • The goop originally at Delfino Airstrip is still in the shape of a Mario head with an “M” above it instead of a Luigi head with an “L” above it.
  • The mod doesn’t work on console.

If anyone is able to improve this hack by adding anything listed as lacking, send Nintendo 64 Wizard the new asset(s) (and explain how you made them) at

If the asset(s) are quality enough to be in this mod, the creator’s name will be added to the credits, both on this page and in-game.

(Unfortunately, the xdelta patch must be downloaded offsite because files exceeding 30MB in size are not permitted onsite.)

Added a custom title on GameTDB and added the Title ID to be “GLSE01″

"Unmentioned" Problems About the Great Mario Sunshine Hack

Reviewed By: Garatchten on 16 May 2020

This works better on on version 5.0 11522 of Dolphin (Could just be certain computer models).

The Luigi animations still need some work and yes, I know this isn’t easy. When you exit a level after successfully collecting a shine, Luigi is supposed to come out of the “M” or soon to be “L” with his cap off in his hand. There is no animation for this, and when he outs the cap back on.

Speaking of the level portals, the particles for the Luigi are still red and light blue instead of green and dark blue.

His eyes still don’t close when sleeping.

Also, when Luigi hops aboard Yoshi, the Squirt Nozzle changes shape and some colors.

The other nozzle icons in the HUD besides Squirt, are inaccurate when it comes to color. All of them besides the Squirt Nozzle, are more pink than red, and there is silver where there isn’t supposed to be.

Luigi’s model isn’t affected by water or goop. He looks exactly the same when this happens with no goop all over him or being wet and dripping. Luigi’s model isn’t “shiny” like Mario’s model as well.

In my opinion, the shines should stay the same color, because there is no reason. I know you guys or whoever is reading this are trying to fit the Luigi theme, but there is no point of making all shines green. Some CPUs still say Mario.

There is still no hat animation for a level clear.

The game freezes/crashes when you enter certain levels like Episode 7 of Sirena Beach.

The FLUDD icons besides Squirt, are inaccurate to the actual Polter-FLUDD

The normal FLUDD is way better than Polter-FLUDD, and it should be put back on Luigi’s back and change the icons.

Other than these issues that weren’t mentioned, this hack is phenomenal in many way, yet also revolutionary.
