Thanks! I hate it! (Lazy, Effortless & Taseless hack)

Reviewed By: theNightStar on 12 Jul 2020

You know… It would be bad enough if this wasn’t an incredibly lazy hack to begin with. From the extremely unimaginative, barely altered graphics that must have taken at LEAST a whole 4 and a half minutes in Tile Layer Pro, to the incredibly generic and uninspired level design that would make a rushing noob fiddling with Super Mario Maker just moving a few random things around and calling it done, look like a quantified genius, I question so many things about the time and effort spent on this at all.

…But then there’s the ADDITIONAL fact that it’s based on a puerile and childish “band” (in quotations to denote that I am stretching the current definition) with absolutely no talent, whom I was pretty sure there was some kind of law against still listening to after one turns 13 years old.

So not only was there barely ANY effort in putting this together, but just for reminding the world that unfortunately, the Insane Clown Posse exists (or in fact ever did) the scale of cringe that this brings about is only multiplied.

Now to be fair, the main criticisms here are just that: The graphics are poorly altered and brings to mind the very INFANCY of the rom hacking days when things like making the Mario bros look like penises, or scrawling nazi imagery all over the bricks for the sheer giggling “humor” of doing so was the “height of quality”, and the level design is so thoughtless, bland, boring, and barely even seemingly an after-thought to this hack that it might as well not have even been attempted…

But it being based on the ICP is just the cherry on the garbage truck sundae on top of everything else wrong with this hack, here. I’m aware that the identity of the band used for the basis of the hack what is NOT what’s primarily important to look at here, whether you hate the ICP or are a “fan” that pretends to tolerate them because your recreational marijuana use no longer lets you differentiate between these two things.

….But either suddenly the rom hacking community has de-evolved back to the late 90’s during the internet and the emulation scene’s infancy again, or the quarantine has caused drug use to suddenly rise, or this is some kind of bizarre attempt at post-modern self-reflective community parody (which I very much doubt, seeing as I don’t think anyone who even listens to the ICP CAN inherently understand the concept of decent humor or subtlety).

However, no matter which way you look at it, the rational mind has to stand back and baffle as to why, in the year of our lord 2020, something like this can be released onto Romhacking.net with any semblance of pride.

This can’t have been serious.

And if it was, then I think 2020 is in way more social disrepair than I initially thought, and I have a lot of personal soul-searching to do in terms of fathoming the debts of the rabbit hole that our current social climate has wrought.

Anyway, this hack sucks. That’s really what I’m trying to say, here. I know, I was so coy about it.
