Final Fantasy 6 - A Complete Hack

Hack of Final Fantasy III

Description:

This is a complete hack of Final Fantasy 6. The changes are numerous, the sprites have been fully changed, so has the text, bosses, various enemies, equipment… Some things that people will notice pretty quickly, others that won’t be as easy to pick up.

The author wanted to make a hack that was fair to the player, but that felt different enough from the original game. This is a bit harder then the original game, but not absurdly so, so it should be playable if you aren’t looking for a hardtype sort of game.

Feel free to try if you are interested! There’s more information available in the readme, but playing it for yourself is the best way to notice the changes.

The newest update fixes several typos, and also changes quite a few late game enemies/bosses. They should be more interesting, now.

It also adds a couple new pieces of equipment, and has a few other minor balance changes.

Update adds a second patch to the game - An additional hard mode. Pick the one you prefer.

2019 Update makes a couple minor changes to the game, but the biggest change is the new face pics. I’ve also kept the old versions of the patch in the download file for nostalgia’s sake - but I would suggest using the newest version.

Updated in May 2019. There was a pretty severe graphical bug. Apologies to anyone who played it during this time.

Disappointing

Reviewed By: Hrith on 07 Feb 2011

I think the authors of this hack meant it more as a comic relief than a game actually fun to play.

If that is what you are looking for, and don’t mind the use and abuse of internet memes (some are really funny, though), you may have a good time playing this hack. Know though that it comes with two dramatic downfalls:

  • The people who wrote the dialogues have not gone past sixth grade. There is a grammar, spelling or syntax mistake every sentence, it’s really painful to just read anything in that hack.
  • The gameplay is, let’s be blunt, crap. Everything that has been added or altered from the original Final Fantasy VI only serves to make it worse. Pity.

The characters, although completely new in about every aspect, are also atrociously unbalanced, but facing the other imperfections of the gameplay of this hack, this one comes as a minor one.
